The Music Network Meeting 4pm, 29th January 2009, Birmingham TIC

The Music Network organises a NETWORKING EVENT

on the last Thursday of each month, 4-6pm

at The BCU Technology and Innovation Centre(TIC), Millennium Point, Curzon Street, Birmingham, B4 7XG. (directions/info tel: 08712 262725)

The next meeting is open to all on Thursday 29th Janauary 2009 4pm til 6pm at The TIC, Birmingham.

The Birmingham branch of Musicians Union will be supplying luxury chocolate biscuits and good coffee for all. There’s food and drink afterwards supplied by the creative networks lot too. Come and talk about music and what you’re up to and meet some new people, you know it makes sense.

The Music Network organises the meeting for the benefit of music related businesses in the West Midlands region. If you have news to report, a presentation to give, an event to promote, any new points for discussion, a pitch to make, a new website or online music business to talk about, business cards or flyers to hand round, an appeal for help, advice or guidance or even if you just want the free tea and biscuits and some quality entertainment…you are all invited.

  • The Prefects – A Punk Rock History with images and reviews
    Paul & Alan Apperley arguably started the band in February 1977 before being joined by Robert Lloyd who inspired by seeing the Pistols moved from Cannock to Birmingham & then followed the Pistols around on their Anarchy tour. Arguably as The Prefects had existed, though never gigged, as early as '76 (first as Church Of England then Gestapo!). Rob's connections with the organisers of The Clash's White Riot Tour meant the Prefects joining The Slits & Subway Sect as support group for four dates. Good start.

Andy Derrick spoke about the launch of his freelance work giving advice to musicians and music businesses on all aspects of the industry as well as his work as a guest speaker, arranger, composer, performer, manager and agent.  More information can be found on his website http://andyderrick.co.uk 

Lee Parsons spoke about the latest things happening at Ditto Music including their new deal on aggregation – see website for details.  Lee also spoke about the Ditto Music TV show available on SKY with previous episodes available on the website and on YouTube.

  • Dek from Drongos for Europe – Health Update – Huggy @ MVFK publications MySpace Blog
    While in Athens Airport on Monday (05..01..09), Dek became ill and subsequently suffer from a heart attack brought on by a damaged artery and was rushed to hospital. After tests he had to have an operation yesterday (06..01..09) and is responding well, he's got colour in his cheeks and is looking a lot better. We don't know as yet when he will be recovered enough to come home, it's just one step at a time, so for now he's just got to take it easy…thanks to the hospital staff, the Athens punks and all of you who have sent messages of good will, we would collectively like to take this opportunity to thank you all … it means a lot.
