Fordante Birmingham Art Gallery & Museum from 11:00 till 12:00 this Saturday 8th November

Most of you know me as a film composer but in parallel with writing music for picture (and theatre) I’ve been composing classical music for several years.  After a pretty intensive 9 months orchestrating, rehearsing and promoting, we’re about to premiere my exciting Crossover Classical Group, Fordante.  This classically trained five piece ensemble has been formed specifically to play my new music which is inspired by the traditional sound of Venice and blended with the more contemporary styles of film music, creating a fresh exhilarating take on classical music.

The five date tour supported by the UK Arts Council starts on the 13th December. However, we have been asked to perform a special preview concert at the Birmingham Art Gallery & Museum from 11:00 till 12:00 this Saturday 8th November as part of Birmingham‘s Gigbeth Music Festival. So if you’re around it would be great to see you, otherwise more info and samples of music can be found on the Fordante website www.fordante.com.

I’m currently scoring the soundtrack to the Les Dennis film (including a whole host of other well known faces) ‘Waiting In Rhyme’ by Last Independent in aid of the Macmillan Charity which has received a fair amount of press coverage recently.

Get Your Vinyl Releases Reviewed here

Here’s a top tip…perhaps a sign of the times too…..

From: Paul Rigby (uk+44) 01522 511265
Address: 1 Greestone Place,m Lincoln, LN2 1PP.

I’m a journalist based in the UK. I write for Record Collector, a national magazine which has been around for over 20 years: one of the most influential music publications currently on the shelves. I also write for HiFi World, one of the top sellers in the UK market. This is a different type of publication and a different audience so appearing in this magazine will not duplicate readers found in Record Collector. Importantly, readers of this magazine all love vinyl.

On that subject, I am the most knowledgeable journalist in the UK regarding the vinyl format. I know the format intimately, whether that be from a mastering or pressing point of view. The two vinyl columns in Record Collector and HiFi World represent the most important awareness pages for that format in the UK. No other music magazine devotes as much space to vinyl as I do (up to 5 pages in HiFi World per month, actually).

I currently scour the world looking for vinyl to review and currently receive product from the UK, USA, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece and more. If you have any vinyl on offer, I would be more than happy to review it, no matter what the genre.

New networks for musicians in the Midlands

Musicians and others from across the music business will be able to benefit from a series of networking opportunities taking place across the Midlands.  Running since September and going through until August 2009, the Musicians’ Union is hosting Network: Musician

The free events hope to bring together diverse people working in music from across the local scene.  Whether they work in performing, teaching or songwriting or own a record company or studio or are part of a funding and support organisation, it is expected that many will benefit from attendance at the network.  Music practitioners and businesses can come along and seek advice, ask questions, make announcements, look for connections or just attend to see what others are up to.

The event takes place quarterly in Stoke-on-Trent, Derby, Leicester, Nottingham, Lincoln and Stratford-on-Avon.  Network: Musician is free and refreshments are provided.  Each meeting starts at 4pm.

The dates of the first meetings are as follows:

Tuesday 2nd December – Stoke College, Burslem, Moorland Road, Stoke-on-Trent
Wednesday 10th December – The Musician Pub, Clyde Street, Leicester
Wednesday 14th January – Confetti Studios, Covent Street, Nottingham
Tuesday 20th January – Cox’s Yard, Bridgefoot, Stratford-on-Avon
