One man operation, he’s a front of house and monitor engineer, also does studio production.

Looking to get into music and video production. Recently been doing some training on music creation software. Interested in doing some remixing work. Currently doing a documentary for a competition “two weeks to make it” its the first time the competition has been run. the idea is take two weeks to make a music video.

Robin Valk:

Is talking about local radio and its relationship with local music.
Focus is where radio has been, where it is going and where the new opportunities lie and some of the things you can do with radio. Also looking at audio with pictures. Its not a positive picture for radio but it is positive for creativity.

Robin is involved with Project x presents: a multi media event, with music, dance, performance artists, builds to a climax of mark wreck dj set. next event will be informal possibly in november and wants to make it more music based.

Rose:
Student from BCU
Rose said that one of the researchers at BCU came up with an idea of a Birmingham Music Month and tried to organise it last year but the project didnt work and was deemed a failure. BCU has suggested birmingham music month should be run as a student project this year and the students are keen to do it properly this time and make it work. The whole idea of a Birmingham Music Month is being relaunched and May is now the Music Month. Rose asked that anyone who wants to get involved in BirminghamMusic Month should get in touch, in particular anyone organising an event in the month of May. Currently the only event organised under Birmingham Music Month is an all day event at the Rainbow May 6th from 2pm

There was a long discussion of brum music month both pros and cons. Shame no one involved showed up to talk about how it was going. Brum Music Month is an idea of well meaning people choosing a month to celebrate brum music.

Andy Derrick spoke about the launch of his freelance work giving advice to musicians and music businesses on all aspects of the industry as well as his work as a guest speaker, arranger, composer, performer, manager and agent.  More information can be found on his website http://andyderrick.co.uk 

Lee Parsons spoke about the latest things happening at Ditto Music including their new deal on aggregation - see website for details.  Lee also spoke about the Ditto Music TV show available on SKY with previous episodes available on the website and on YouTube.

Are you coming to the Music Network meeting Thursday 31 July 4 til 6pm at The TIC?

The Birmingham branch of Musicians Union will be supplying luxury chocolate biscuits and good coffee for all. There’s food and drink afterwards supplied by the creative networks lot too. Come and talk about what you’re up to and meet some new people, you know it makes sense.

The Music Network organises a NETWORKING EVENT on the last Thursday of each month, 4-6pm at The BCU Technology and Innovation Centre(TIC), Millennium Point, Curzon Street, Birmingham, B4 7XG. (directions/info tel: 08712 262725)

The meeting is open to all involved in Birmingham Music who wish to network.

The Music Network organises the meeting for the benefit of music related businesses in the West Midlands region.
