I'm Mark, I run an independent record label called Iron Man Records, which is based in Birmingham England. I set up the Birmingham Music Network, and I organised gigs in Birmingham for over ten years as Badger Promotions. I play in a band called Last Under The Sun, Cain and Freestone and another called Police Bastard, I offer tour management and driving to help bands out on tour, and I have done some lecturing at Birmingham City University as part of their Music Industry degree course.

The people formerly known as the audience wish to inform media people of our existence, and of a shift in power that goes with the platform shift you’ve all heard about.
Think of passengers on your ship who got a boat of their own. The writing readers. The viewers who picked up a camera. The formerly atomized listeners who with modest effort can connect with each other and gain the means to speak— to the world, as it were.
Now we understand that met with ringing statements like these many media people want to cry out in the name of reason herself: If all would speak who shall be left to listen? Can you at least tell us that?
The people formerly known as the audience do not believe this problem—too many speakers!—is our problem. Now for anyone in your circle still wondering who we are, a formal definition might go like this:

BBC AND HIGHER RHYTHM PARTNERSHIP GIG
One of the premier new music events of the year for South Yorkshire will be held at Sheffield Carling Academy on the 2nd of December 2008.

 

Higher Rhythm, Doncaster Music Week’s owners, have teamed up with BBC Sheffield Raw Talent to stengthen the network of regional music; and this first event which will be recorded live for broadcast, will be the first of many…

 

From over 200 local hopeful artists, 5 have been chosen to deliver the goods on the night. The event is free, subject to registration and a nominal booking fee, so hurry up and visit the BBC Raw Talent Introducing site to hear who is playing, reserve your place, and get yourself heard in the crowd at this exclusive gig !

 

DONCASTER MUSIC GIVES A LITTLE EXTRA
Riding on the success of the Doncaster Music Week ‘Access to the Industry’ week earlier this year, we have spread the love with the DMW ‘Xtra’ events.

 

May 2008 saw one off seminars and events being rolled out with more aspiring music industry pros taking advantage of the unique opportunities on offer.

ANNUAL MUSIC BASH
Doncaster Music Week is the official distributor for free VIP tickets to the Higher Rhythm annual xmas round-up featuring the Circuit Records extravaganza and Sine FMroadshow, 12th December at the Priory Doncaster.

 

The live music event, recorded live for broadcast, will be a ‘game of 2 halves’, starting at 1pm till 7, then 7pm onwards.
